Your deferred life plan
waking up at 4 AM like Kobe Bryant, and choosing discipline like Mike Tyson

Author’s note: Welcome to Edition 07. I write about the pain and suffering caused by a deferred life plan. Please reply to my email with your thoughts about this essay. I also write a second newsletter with topical commentary on how new-age businesses make money (Newsletter link here).
If you push your dreams long enough, they become someone else’s dreams. Your deferred life plan is someone’s real life plan. Wake up and chase your dreams like your life depends on it. It does on a long enough time scale.
The scale of your vision is important because your dreams should be inflection points in your life. You cannot go back to the same life once you’ve realised your potential. Everything changes and you can never go back to who you were. This is why it’s hard to chase your dreams. You have to change if you want to change the possible outcomes in your life.
You must constantly visualise, work on and chase your ideal life. It’s the only way to get to where you want to be. Once you arrive at the end-point, you realise you can do even greater things. Every end leads to a beginning in this loop by loop life experience. This growth is hard fought and follows if you pursue your life plan today.
It is difficult to choose the harder life today. No one likes pain and suffering. Kobe Bryant did not want to get up at 4 AM every day to practice. He chose this path to become the best in basketball and get back time to spend with his family. It takes discipline. Mike Tyson said it best, ‘Discipline is doing what you hate to do but doing it like you love it’.
You know what you have to do to turn things around in life. Every day, choose to do the right thing. And every second day, choose to do it again. Over time, build your habits to a point where they are second nature. Your ideal life relies on you doing the right things consistently. Along with consistency, be relentless because everyone is gunning for your dreams.
Assume that anything you push will never be achieved. Your deferred life plan is a fugazi. It does not exist. It lets you sleep at night because you have a plan. It also makes you sleep in because that plan leads nowhere. It will make nothing out of you because it rose from you avoiding reality.
You live now and not in the Christmas holidays in two weeks. It’s okay to feel like you’re not ready. You have to make a beginning. You do not want to look back and realise you could have started sooner. Live today and not in post-dated plans because these tend to get lost in the mail.
